Is often placed as a son of Thomas Meryell of Wherstead in unsourced trees, but as this John was born ca 1475 and Thomas Meryell of Wherstead's will was probated in 1464, it is not possible that John is Thomas's son. More likely he is a grandson through one of the sons Thomas lists in his will.
