John McKinsey was the son of John and Mary (Crane) McKinsey. John married Catherine Crick on December 27, 1827 in Augusta County, Virginia. John and Catherine moved their family from Virginia to Perry Township, Clinton County, Indiana 1848-1850. John and Catherine had 12 children, Sarah Jane (McKinsey) Bell, James Franklin McKinsey, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" (McKinsey) Mitchell Barton, Dianna Catherine (McKinsey) Labaree, Rev. William Penn McKinsey, Samuel McKinsey, Luticia "Tish" McKinsey, Hannah B. McKinsey, Nancy "Nannie" (McKinsey) Roberts, Margaret Estelline "Essie" (McKinsey) McMillan, Rosanna Virginia "Birdie" (McKinsey) McDowell and John Hubbard McKinsey.
John and Catherine are probably buried in the White Cemetery (close to where they lived in Perry Township). Catherine's brother, John C. Crick and sister-in-law and several other relatives are buried here. But, the cemetery was abandoned and overgrown and the farmer who owned the property (Mr. Bell) removed the tombstones and plowed up the cemetery. A granddaughter of John C. Crick, Marie Crick York, remembered visiting these family graves with her father.
