Hello, I descend from the Laird family, also. My ancestor was Mary. Her first born child Samuel Marrs was my ancestor. Mary Laird married 1st John Marrs in Wythe Co., Va., May 4, 1791. When the typist typed John Marrs and Mary's marriage record. She typed her name as Sard, she mistook the L for an S. Laird was often spelled Lard in early records. So this problem took me years to get straighten out. I found the proof I needed from, "Perrin's", History of Christian Co., KY. From an article on Mary's son Col. George Poindexter.

John Marrs died at a very young age died in either 1800 or 1801 in Kentucky. Mary married second Peter Poindexter in Jessamine Co., Kentucky on 30-June-1802. Mary and Peter had 6 children. Mary died in 1832 in Logan Co., Kentucky. Peter had 5 children from his 1st marriage, Mary had 4 children from her first marriage. They ended up with 15 children. Nice size family. I have done some research on the Kerr and Pickins families als

I have a copy of the Will of James Laird, who married Letitia Kerr. Only 3 daughters were listed on his Will. Where does the 4th daughter come in at? I had never heard of her.

After James was killed in the War, Letitia married second to Samuel Marrs the father of John Marrs. In Montgomery Co., Va., and August 5, 1788. They never had any children of their own. Around 1793 most of Samuel's family moved to Jessamine Co., Kentucy. This is about 15 miles south of Lexington, KY. Letitia and Samuel were buried on their farm there.

I have never been able to find James Laird's parents. His wife Letitia was born and bapisted in Augusta Co., Va. at the Old Stone Church. There were Laird's in that area with all the same names as our James' family. But I can't find a connection. Maybe you have found this connection by now. I just got my computer last year and am just getting started looking on the Web for family.

Hope to hear from you.

Elaine Marrs-Facklam
