Speculative Inserted Generation

Most trees, knowing that Margaret Bullock married John Malthus of Binfield, Berkshire, and seeing several baptisms of children of John (or unnamed) Malthus in Binfield between 1551 and 1563, assume that Margaret was their mother. However, assuming she was the eldest daughter of Thomas Bullock and Alice Kingsmill (as suggested by the order in the 1532 and 1566 Visitations of Berkshire), the latest she could have been born would have been about 1520, resulting in a birth order of all sons and then all daughters in the Richard and Alice Bullock family. Not only is this unlikely, but it would force her brother Richard's birth year to be about 1508 (or earlier), which seems early given that his own eldest son was born about 1546.

It is quite possible that Margaret and John Malthus had a son also named John, and that he was the father of the children baptized between 1551 and 1563. This page represents this speculative son.
