John Males was born on 23rd December 1744 and baptised seven days later at Cottered in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Males, formerly Dearman, and her husband John Males, a farmer.

No burial record has been found for young John, but it would appear that he died young as his parents had another son called John in 1754.
