- ↑ "John A. Johnson, aged 81 years, one of the most widely known residentsof Seneca county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. A. BLUTHART,No. 211 Hall street, at 1:35 o'clock this morning. Death was due to acomplication of diseases induced by old age. The deceased was born inGermany, September 11, 1832, and came to this country with his parents,Mr. And Mrs. Henry Johnson, at the age of two years and had lived inthis county almost continuously since that time. He spent the greaterpart of his life at Kansas, where he conducted a blacksmith shop. Forseveral years he also conducted a similar business at Melmore. Hecontinued to engage actively in the blacksmith business until he was 75years of age and on the morning of his birthday he shod a horse and thenlaid aside his tools and retired from the business. 59 years ago he wasunited in marriage to Miss Lydia Powell, of this city, to which unionfive children were born, of whom the following survive: Mrs. W. R.Betts, of Kansas; H. W. Johnson and Mrs. Annie Seery, of Crawfordcounty, and Mrs. L. A. BLUTHART, of this city. The funeral will be heldat the M. E. church, at Kansas, at 2:00 Thursday afternoon. ReverendEngle officiating. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Kansas."
And a corretion was in the paper the next day: "A change has been made inthe time of the funeral of the late J. A. Johnson. It will be held atthe home of his daughter, Mrs. L.A. BLUTHART, No. 211 Hall StreetWednesday morning, at 10:00 and will be conducted by Rev. C. W. Kennedy.The body will be taken to Kansas, where interment will be made Thursdayafternoon at 2:00."
