According to H. D. Baskerville, the Rev. John Holmes was educated at Killygordon School and graduated at Glasgow University. He was licensed to preach in Jan 1776 and ordained at Donogheady, County Tyrone on 29 apr 1779 where he served until 20 Jun 1830.

John married Eliza McCrea. Her memorial is a flat slate slab that has the inscription, ‘Here Lies The Body of Mrs Elizabeth Holmes who departed this life June 16 1795 aged 34 years’,

ROBERT McCREA HOLMES DIED 8TH FEB 1873. JAMES McCREA HOLMES DIED 14th JAN 1876. CHARLES ALBERT HOLMES DIED 14th DEC 1881. DAVID HOLMES DIED 17TH APRIL 1885. JOHN HOLMES DIED 21ST AUG 1887.
