  3. No source for the birthdate was given, but Source:Genealogy of the Swasey family which includes the descendants of the Swezey families of Southold, Long Island, New York : and the descendants of the Swayze families, p. 306, says John Gilman was born 10 Jan 1624 in Hingham, England. As parish records in England recorded baptisms and burials, it is extremely unusual to have an actual birth date, and it would also be fairly unusual to wait over 2 years to baptize a child. Therefore, one must regard this birth date in 1624 with a grain of salt. Not knowing the primary source for this, one can only speculate that it may be the baptism of an earlier child named John who died as an infant???
