    John was appointed and served as paymaster in the army during the war of 1812. A few years afterward he went to Pendleton county and engaged in farming and raising fine stock, in which he was greatly interested. On May 25, 1805, he married Sarah Shipp, daughter of Laban Shipp and Elizabeth Johnson, who was a sister to Robert Johnson who came from Virginia to Kentucky in its early settlement; and aunt of Hon. Richard M. Johnson, Vice President of the United States
