I have been working hard on these northeastern North Carolina people in the 1700's. Several families moved in from Virginia in the 1750's and 1760's. Joseph Edmundson and his family were in Craven in the early years of the century but do not appear to have moved up to Halifax/Edgecombe. He was a son of Thomas of Essex, the immigrant to Virginia about 1650. I believe Bryant Edmundson, Joseph's brother, and several of his sons moved to Halifax about 1755 while his son Richard and his clan moved to Franklin County, VA. I suspect John who married Lydia to be a son of one of these men, and a grandson of Bryant. Bryant's son, Bryant, and his wife Sarah moved on down to Onslow County. Other sons appear to be Thomas, Joseph (wife Mariannah), John and William. One of them might be John who married Lydia's father. Dr. Thomas Edmundson who moved into Edgecombe/Johnston/Dobbs/Green and had sons John and James appears to be a different line, possibly from another immigrant named Thomas who came to the Virginia colony in the late 1600's. Another William lived in Halifax at the same time the postulated son of Bryant named William lived there. He appears to have come from Lunenberg County across the Virginia line, from another of Thomas of Essex's sons. We need some clear proofs of these relationships but where will we find them?
