John Creasey's origins have yet to be established. If the age given when he died was correct then he was born around 1769. He also indicated in the 1841 census that he was not born in Lincolnshire.

John's first confirmed sighting is on 30th March 1797, when he married Lucy Turner at Heckington in Lincolnshire. John was described as being a farmer at the time of their marriage, and he was living in the neighbouring parish of Great Hale. Their marriage was reported in the Gentleman's Magazine under the heading "Marriages of remarkable Persons".

John and Lucy settled in Great Hale after their marriage, having five children baptised there between 1798 and 1811, although their second child died when she was only five years old. The children's baptisms mostly describe John as a farmer, although one describes him as a grazier.

John and Lucy appear in the 1841 census living on Church Street in Great Hale with their youngest son.

John died on 26th April 1842 at Great Hale. He was said to be either 72 or 73 years old. Lucy survived him by seven years.
