Will of John Catlett

  • Pages 51-52. Will of John Catlett being sick and weak, dated 28 Nov. 1744.
To my daughter Elizabeth, Negro Bess, Nanny and Letty, one deather (feather) bed and furniture and one black mare called Billy Clare.
My wife live on any of my lands during her life or widowhood.
To my four sons Lawrance, Jonathan, Thomas and George the land I now live on equally divided. In case one or more of them should die before they come of age, equally divided between the surviving brothers. It be divided when Lawrence come of age.
All my lands in Caroline County to my son John Catlett. In case he should die before he comes of age, to my son Lawrance in lue of his part of the land I now live on and the land I now live on to be divided amongst my other two [sic] sons.
All the rest of my estate, Negroes and other personal estate to be equally divided between my loving wife and five sons John, Lawrence, Jonathan, Thomas and George, when my son John comes of age.
Valentine Morgan live on the plantation whereon he now lives nineteen years, he paying 530 pounds of tobaco yearly after the expiration of two years.
My loving wife and my son John and Jonathan Gibson my executrix and executors.
