Calkins, 73, of Calkins Road, died Wednesday (May 3 1989) in Mount St Mary's Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of the Town of Lewiston, he was a production operator for the Union Carbide Corp in Niagara Falls for 30 years. He was a member of St John's Episcopal Church of Youngstown, the Niagara River Anglers Association, the Historical Association and Society of Lewiston, the Iroquois Arms Collectors Association of Western New York, the National Rifle Association, the Western new York Gas and Steam Engines Association, the LaSalle Sportsmen's Club, and the Niagara Niacet Retired Men's Club. He was also an avid sportsman and wildlife enthusiast. His wife, Martha (Gibbs) Calkins, died Feb 29, 1968. He was the son of the late LaVern and Elizabeth (Nickerson) Calkins. Calkins is survived by a daughter, Betty Reinbolt of Lockport; a brother, Raymond Calkins of Shinglehouse, Pa; and a grandson, two nephews and a niece. He was the father of the late John F. Calkins, who died in 1959. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Saturday and Sunday at the Hardison Funeral Homes, Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston, where Rev Guy Peek will condict funeral services at 11am Monday. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria. References
