    [citing St Helena Parish Courthouse, Greensburg, Records of Third District Court 130-210] "Petition of Richard Womack of this parish who states that on or about 1 Dec 1818 in Galveztown in Iberville Parish, one John Breed of St. Helena Parish did then and there with force and arms ? assault, beat, bruise, wound, maim, and evil treat Petitioner in a cruel, barbarous, and wanton manner. And Breed did with fists, feet, and sticks strike, kick, and wound Petitioner so that his life was for a long time despaired of; and that at the same time and place Breed bit off or with his teeth tore off his ear, by the loss of which the petitioner is greatly disfigured and dishonred in his appearance. He prays for damages of $10.000."
