He was confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on Whitsunday, 1 754,at the age of fifteen years. July 1764, Thomas Koppenheffer purchased 137 acres of land, one-half of a l arger tract in Hanover Township, Lancaster County, PA, from Jacob Moser E state. On Nov. 16, 1767, he paid the Jacob Moser Estate 62 pounds 17 s hillings and 2 pence to the following: 1. Catharine Koppenheffer, elde st daughter, 2. Rachel Mosser w. of Adam Gutman, 3. Eve Werick, 4. Chri stiana Mosser, miner, 5. Elizabeth Moser, minor, 6. Jacob Moser, Jr., a m inor; Peter Hedrick guardian. Deed Book "O", p. 162 Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pa. May 31, 1769 Tho mas Koppenhoffer sold 137 acres of land fromthe Jacob Mosser Estate, H anover Township, Lancaster, Pa. to Peter Hedrick for 149 pounds, 8 shil lings, 10 pence. Recorded Jan 12, 1784. Peter Heydrick had located ne ar Union Forge previous to 1734 about 3/4 miles due north from Fort Smi th which was erected on his farm. Misc. Docket 1772-1776; page 339 - "On March 5, 1772, at the instance a nd request of Martin Hess and Peter Hederick guardians over the estates o f Jacob Moser, Elizabeth Mosser, and Christina Mosser, minor children o f Jacob Moser deceased, it is ordered thata citation do issue to Thoma s Koppenheffer and Catharine his wife, late Catharine Moser one of the d aughters of the said deceased to appear in Orphans Court to be held at L ancaster for the County of Lancaster on the first Tuesday in June next t o show cause if any they have why they have not made satisfaction to sa id children of the said deceased for the respective shares of and in th e valuation or appraisement of the real estate lands and tenements, lat e of the said deceased agreeable to the order for the purpose made at O rphans Court, held at Lancaster Sept. 1776 and to abide the judgement o f thesame court." More is known of Capt. Thomas Koppenhaver thant he other membersof the f amily serving in the Revolution due to the reserch of descendants of th is line and his outstanding military Career. Although Capt. Thomas lived in East Hanover, he was born along the Tulp ehocken and his war career had much to do with former neighbors and rel atives and many of the local men along the Tulehocken fought with him. C apt. Thomas' Company fought under Col. Timoty Green's famous "Hanover R ifle Battalion of Militia." These men were known for thier accuracy in r iflemanship. They carried the long muskets known as "Kentucky Rifles", b ut of course made locally in Lancaster County by Pensylvania German rif le makers. Copinhaffer was commissioned July 31, 1777 as Captain Third C ompany 6thBattalion, Lancaster County militia under Col. John Rogers." 2. Certification: Thomas Kopenhaver served as Captain of the Third Cl ass Lanaster Co. Militia commanded by Col. Alexander Lawry, Aug. 28, 17 77. 3. Certification: Thomas Kopenhaver was enrolled as Captain of a Comp any 6th Battalion, Lancaster County Militia commanded by Col. John Roge rs now serving at Chester under command of Col. Alexander Lowry 3rd Bat talion, Aug. 30, 1777. At the timeof the surrender of Fort Washington, Nov. 16, 1776, Capt Ko ppenhaver's Co. of Lebanon Co. men were paroled and sent home in exchan ge. Afterwards they served three years inthe Pa. line. Local names on t hose rolls were Jacob Musser, Peter Musser, John Pickle (Bickel), John L ymon (Lehman), George Musser. ---Pa.
