Facts and Events
The following are only possibilities; use with caution: 1880: 1) Silver Cliff, Custer Co., Colorado (p. 302A): [due west of Pueblo, CO, in the Rockies.] John C. Betts, 31, b. NY, mining; parents' birthplaces unlisted; Anne E. Betts, 28, wife, born Sweden with children: Lucinda, 5, b. CO; Mabel E. Betts, 3, b. CO. Also living with them: William Bridges, mining, 50, born England. In 1900, Laramie, WY: Ward 2: John C. Betts, b. Feb 1848, WI, parents born Germany; salesman wife Annie, b. Aug 1851, Sweden; parents b. Sweden dau Edith, b. May 1886 Wyoming; fa: Wisconsin; mo: Sweden In 1910, Annie Betts, b. Aug 1859, Sweden, married 25 years (not shown as widow), 3/3 children, is living with her daughter, Mabel, and son-in-law, Harry Finch. Annie emigrated 1875. Mabel and Harry have only been married 9 months. Mabel is listed as born Sep 1880, and 19 years of age. Born Colorado. Harry emigrated from England in 1879 and is a bricklayer. They are on Goss Street, in Denver, CO. (Ward 6, ED 44, Sheet 14B.) There is an unknown Betts living in Ward 2, Denver, as a lodger; no info about him was known by whoever gave the enumerator information. In addition, I find Harry Finch, married a second time to an Elsie, also in Denver. So it looks like Mabel either died or divorced him by 1905. 2) Gunnison, Gunnison Co., Colorado (p. 123A): [Even further west of Silver Cliff, CO, further into the Rockies.] John Betts, 30, b. WI, single; miner; parents' birthplaces unlisted. Enum. with: Wm. Bridges, 30, miner, born England. [Compare with 1880 enumeration above!] References
