John Ebert was born in 1859 in Stadlauringen, Bavaria. Served in the German army and was honorably discharged in 1873. Emigrated to the USA in 1885. Worked at his own business, Express Moving, a household moving company. Job title "Truckman" on son, William's birth certificate. Went by the name John. Married Phliomena Elfert in Brooklyn, New York (at Holy Trinity Church on Montrose Ave?) on October 21, 1888 (Kings Co. Marriage Cert. #4028).

John forbid any of his children to marry while he was alive, if they did marry, they would be taken out of his will. William was the only child to marry while John was alive. His father stood true to his promise, William received nothing upon John's death.

1892 NY State census, living at (123) Ewen St, Brooklyn, NY. John (widowed, age 64), living with John I. (Age 32), Minne (age 25) and Katie (age 13 mo). John and John are both listed as "Truckman". Naturalized in Brooklyn County Court in 19 Oct 1894.

1900 census shows John and Philomina (Minni) living at 382 Wallabout St, Brooklyn, NY with 6 children. Shows John and Minni married 15 years, both emigrated 1885, and both born in Gremany. John has a job in the trucking trade.

1905 NY state census, living at 27 Scholes, Brooklyn with 7 children (shows Katie as a boarder). John and Philomina married 20 years. John's occupation is moving van.

1910 census shows John and Philomina living at 442 Scholes St., Brooklyn with 8 children. John is listed as a 'Truckman'.

1920 census 35/9, roll 1166, vol 172, ed 855, sheet 5, line 62, shows John and Philomina living and renting a 2 story walkup at 43 Scholes Street, Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Kings County, New York 11206.

1930 census shows John (Widowed) living at 167 Chestnut St., Brooklyn with 5 children. John is retired. John owned the 3 family house at 167 Chestnut Street, Cypress Hills, Brooklyn and lived there until his death in 1941. The house than passed to his children where they lived until their passing.

Buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Block #34, Row 9 Grave 1
