John Ebert was born in 1859 in Stadlauringen, Bavaria. Served in the German army and was honorably discharged in 1873. Emigrated to the USA in 1885. Worked at his own business, Express Moving, a household moving company. Job title "Truckman" on son, William's birth certificate. Went by the name John. Married Phliomena Elfert in Brooklyn, New York (at Holy Trinity Church on Montrose Ave?) on October 21, 1888 (Kings Co. Marriage Cert. #4028).

John forbid any of his children to marry while he was alive, if they did marry, they would be taken out of his will. William was the only child to marry while John was alive. His father stood true to his promise, William received nothing upon John's death.

1930 census shows John (Widowed) living at 167 Chestnut St., Brooklyn with 5 children. John is retired. John owned the 3 family house at 167 Chestnut Street, Cypress Hills, Brooklyn and lived there until his death in 1941. The house than passed to his children where they lived until their passing.
