_MAR: Hake Hake is occasionally spelled "Hawkey". Also how it was pronounced by great-grandson Henry Wyss according to his daughter, Mary Houser (Wyss).

According to "Valley of the Upper Maumee River" (1889), moved to New York from Prussia in 1832, worked in a sugar factory there for 4 years, and then moved to Indiana to work on the construction of the Wabash & Erie Canal. However, the book also notes he bought land in 1834, so dates are unclear.
