Note written & provided by Doug Garnett: (Virginia County Records Spotsylvania County 1721-1800 deeds, deed book P 1797-1800 page 502. Aug. 3, 1798. Jeremiah Morton (b. abt 1768) and Mildred Garnett (Jackson), his wife, to Wm. Morton of Orange Co. Whereas, Jno, Jackson, surviving brother of Wm. Jackson, the father of the afsd. Mildred, and Ann Hackley, wife of Richd. S. Hackley, having been a resident in the Kingdom of Gt. Britain for a considerable length of time, and this resulting from mental incapacity, and whereas, he possesses considerable property both real and personal in this State, but especially in Orange Co., and whereas, the sd. (Hon) Jeremiah Morton and Richd. S. Hackley who intermarried with the afsd. Mildred and Ann, ONLY CHILDREN OF WM. JACKSON, who will, in case the sd. John Jackson should continue in his then and present incapacity, and thereby be unable to make any disposition of his estate, be claimants to his afsd. est. under the will of Robert. Jackson, father to the sd. Wm. Jackson and John, etc and whereas, the sd. Jere. Morton and R.S. Hackley, upon making application were apptd. curators or a committee of the afds. property abt the yr. 1794, by the Orange Co. court, and sd. Wm. Morton at that time became their security, etc, etc, to indemnify the afsd. Wm. Morton they, the sd. Jeremiah Morton and Mildred G., his wife, convey to him, viz., the moiety of the sd. Mildred G in the estate of her father, Wm. Jackson, etc, etc, …Sept. 4, 1798.)
