    "5. (Capt.) Jeremiah2 Fitch (James1), born at Norwich, Conn., Sept. 1670, died at Coventry, Conn., 22 May 1736; married Ruth Gifford, born at Norwich, 30 Dec. 1676, living 1736, daughter of Stephen and Hannah (Gallop) Gifford.

    He was appointed Lieut, of the Lebanon trainband, May 1702; Capt., New London County Troop, May 1704; and Capt., 2d Co. in Lebanon, Oct. 1708. He served as Deputy for Lebanon, May and June 1709, Oct. 1712, May 1714, and Oct. 1717; for Windham, Oct. 1723; and for Coventry, May and Oct. 1725, May, July and Oct. 1728, May and Oct. 1732, Feb., May and Oct.
    1733, and May and Oct. 1734. He was a Justice for New London County, 1709.

    His will, dated 8 Mar. 1736, proved 18 June 1736, named his wife Ruth; sons Jeremiah, Abner, Gidion, Elisha, and James; daughters Hannah Fitch and Ruth Fitch; brother Joseph Fitch of Lebanon and son Elisha of Coventry to be executors; son Stephen has had portion. Elisha refused to act, and the eldest son Abner Fitch was made administrator. The file contains receipts from James Fitch of Coventry, 24 Jan. 1742/3; Gideon Fitch of Norwich, 6 Feb. 1743/4; and Daniel and Ruth Whitmore (she daughter of Jeremiah Fitch), 15 Apr. 1747."
