Having died intestate, a letter of administration was issued to “Rhoda Writer the Widow, and William Writer a son, of Jasper Writer Junior late of the Town of Mount Hope in the County of Orange deceased”. It was issued by George M. Grier, at Goshen, on 10 May 1841.
