Personal History

Jasper Writer, Jr.,[2][5] was born 18 April 1792.[5]

Death and Probate

Jasper died intestate[1][2] on or about 28 April 1841, in Trenton, New Jersey, of pleurisy and a cold.[2] He was buried in Mount Hope Plains Cemetery, in Otisville.[5]

On 10 May 1841,[1][2] the Surrogate of Orange co. granted to Rhoda Writer, widow, and William Writer, son, administration of the estate of the late Jasper Writer Jr. of Mount Hope. Guardianships of the three youngest children were granted to Rhoda on 26 July 1841.[3][4] Jasper's estate consisted of a farm of about 220 acres in Mount Hope, a home and lot in Lumberland, Sullivan co., an undivided half of a lot of about 1600 acres in Lumberland, and another small lot in the same town. The annual rents and profits were valued $285, of which the children were entitled to one quarter of the residue after the widow's third was deducted.
