Jasper Scrivner married the live-in teacher his father had hired for the family children. Jasper and Ann eventually moved to Arizona and owned a copper mine.

In 1905, Jasper was accused of, arrested, but never convicted of the dynamiting murder of a fellow miner, Alfred C Lamb. Jasper owned a store in Old Oro Blanco and was murdered by being shot twice in the head and his home was robbed. He had a habit of showing off his gold around town. There is a canyon in the area he used to mine that is supposedly named for him, but it is spelled Scribner.
