1714-1720 Richmond Co VA Deed Book 7; Antient Press: (Page 409)INDENTURE made the 2d. day of June in the fifth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God, King of Great Brittain France and Ireland, Defender of the faith &c., And in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & Nineteen, Between MARY TRENT of Parish of Sittenburne in the County of Richmond of one part and GEORGE PAINE of the same Parish and County of other part; Wittnesseth that MARY TRENT for the sume of Five shillings of Lawfull money of Great Brittaine to her in hand paid by GEORGE PAINE by these presents doth bargaine and sell unto GEORGE PAINE and his assignes all that tract of Land containing One hundred acres be the same more or less scituate in Parish of Sittenburne and County of Richmond and being a tract of land given and bequeathed by the Last Will and Testament of JAMES TRENT, deced., to his Daughter, MARY TRENT, party to these presents; which land being bounded; Begining at a Spanish Oak uppon the Maine Road, thence running down the Maine Road to a red Oak standing in the line of a tract of land that was formerly in the possession of GILES MATHEWS but now in the tenure and occupation of WM. BROWN,thence along the said line to another red Oak in the line of a tract of land belonging to JAMES HENDERSON, corner tree thence round the said Land of JAMES HENDERSON, thence to the place it began, Together with all profitts priviledges and appurtenances belonging; To have and to hold the tract of land unto GEORGE PAINE and his assignes dureing the term of one whole year paying unto MARY TRENT the rent of one Eare of Indian Corne upon the Feast of St. Michael! the Archangel! if lawfully demanded to the true intent that by vertue of these p:sents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession said GEORGE PAINE may be in actual! possession of the premisses and thereby enabled to accept a grant of the inheritance thereof; In Wittnesse whereof the said MARY TRENT hath hereunto sett her hand and seale the day month and year first above written

WILLIAMS v WILLIAMS - ALICE WILLIAMS, the Wife of FRANCIS WILLIAMS, by her Petition to last September Court sett forth that she has been marryed to FRANCIS WILLIAMS about nine years and he has not allowed her any maintenance or subsistence, she being about sixty years of age, but daily cohabits with a mulatto woman, therefore prays relief in the premises. FRANCIS WILLIAMS being summoned but not appearing, on the motion of GEORGE ESKRIDGE, Attorney for ALICE WILLIAMS, it is ordered FRANCIS WILLIAMS doe not molest or disturb her in the Thirds of the land on which her former Husband, TRENT, dyed possessed of but that she possess and enjoy the same to her own proper use and benefit

Whereas ARTHUR SPICER of sd County purchased a certaine tract of land of Capt. ARTHUR GRANT of Citty of Bristoll, Mariner, scituate and being in the Freshes of Rappa River and on the North side thereof and abuting and bounding on a Plantation of sd ARTHUR SPICER comonly called and knowne by the name of POPLAR NECK and on the land of JOHN PAYNE and from thence on a Swamp called IRELAND on the sd land of JAMES TRENT and from thence up the head branches of CHARLES BEAVER DAM ',arch sd land is to the Neighbourhood generally knowne and called by the name of WARRENS LAND and for as much as sd land was by sd GRANT conveyed together with Deeds Patents Pachmts. Wrightings bonds and all other evidences relating thereto and Capt. THO: COOPER (by virtue of a well authenticated Power of Attorney from sd GRANT) was in May in year 1688 duly acknowledged and executed according to the Stat of Enrolment by power authorizing him sd COOPER thereunto and for as much as it is evidently knowne to the Court and Mr. WM. COLSTON, the Clerk thereof, that what is above written is truth and that sd COLSTON did at the time of executing the sd Deed and Conveyance (accdg, to Law) all the sd Deeds and papers above expressed in to his Custody in order to the recording of the same at his Office at his own house but it pleased God it so happen that his House with many of the Records and papers therein were in the Night burned to ashes by which means all the afore menconed Deeds Evidences were so as aforesd by fire consumed and distroyed This Court therefore at the special Instance and request of sd ARTHUR SPICER and WM. COLSTON, clerke, or this writing to be put upon the Records that it may be as an evidence of the Truth per Memorian
