Norton, James - entered service 1779 in Rockingham County, Virginia, in Virginia regiment; resided 1786-1789 in Lincoln County, Kentucky, where served as minuteman on frontier against Indians; granted Pension age 74 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, 1834; moved to Greenup County, Kentucky, thence to Clark County, Kentucky, where resided in 1852 age 89; made affidavit 1855 in Carter County, Kentucky, when sister Milly, widow of John Black, made affidavit in Clark County, Kentucky, age 78, that her husband and soldier served together in Revolutionary War; Hyram & William Norton (both no kinship given) made affidavit on behalf of soldier then in Nicholas County, Kentucky; soldier granted Bounty Land Warrant #38501, Carter County, Kentucky, 1856, age 93; died 10/13/1857; query letter in file says soldier died in Laurence, Kentucky; query letter in file in 1938 from great grandson J.T. Baber, Winchester, Kentucky says soldier resided in Clark County, Kentucky with son-in-law Jonathan Baber. F-S38266, R1829.
