"— Death — Obituary At his Plantation in East Bradford, on Friday morning last, Capt. JAMES JEFFERIS, aged 63 years; after an illness of five days. Capt. Jefferis followed the sea for about 50 years, and was for a long time Master of a ship in the West India, European and India Trade. Enterprising, persevering, intelligent and upright, he was successful in business and retired about ten years ago, to the Plantation on which he was born, to enjoy his well earned independence. He proved himself a good farmer as he had been an excellent seaman, and his plantation, one of the most delightful in the county, presents the best evidence of his agricultural skill and industry. He retained the frank manners, and hospitable character of the Mariner and enjoyed with freedom, yet with prudence, the blessings with which he was surrounded, still retaining his active and business habits. He was Director of the Bank in this place; Capt. Jefferis was deservedly esteemed, and died amidst the sincere regrets of a large circle of friends."
