Jim was a very talented artist. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and then received a Masters Degree form Columbia. On January 1, 1942 he married Virginia Dickinson in Bridgeport CT. Shortly after he joined the Army. His Daughter, Lynn was born in Bridgeport while he was in basic training.

After the war, he began a career as a professor of Fine Art at Bridgeport University. He and his family lived in Fairfield and then Easton, CT. Upon retirement, Jim and Jinny built a home in Corinth Corner, VT, just around the corner from his older brother Edgar.

Jim worked in and taught watercolor, oils, acrylics, printmaking, ceramics as well as teaching art history courses. His work is held in many public and private collections.

He died on Christmas eve, 1987 after a long and debilitating battle with multiple myeloma.
