From Bill White, descendant: James attended Otterbein College in Westerville Ohio majoring in Law until World War I began. He volunteered to join the Army and was waiting to be shipped to France when the war ended. When he returned he took up farming eventually owning over 650 acres of prime farmland just east of Jane Lew on the Berlin road. He was known as a very successful farmer
