1837 - James about 21, farming man, married Maria Welsh (spelled Walsh on this document) about 23 on May 2, 1837 at the Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity Church in Quebec City. Residence for both is the Township of Brampton. Source is church marriage record. NOTE: Neither James or Maria were able to sign their names to the document - had to leave their mark. IT APPEARS THAT THEY GOT MARRIED ABOUT 4 MONTHS BEFORE THE BIRTH OF THEIR FIRST CHILD - MAYBE THIS WAS WHY THEY GOT MARRIED IN QUEBEC CITY RATHER THAN IN FULLARTON.

In addition, James' older brother Charles Harper, 52 was boarding with them. Source is 1861 census.
