Name: Maria Welsh. Source for surname is Sarah's 1920 death certificate although it was spelled Welch there. On her grave maker it is spelled Welsh.

Married to James Harper and mother of William, Sarah, Elizabeth, David, George, John, Thomas and James. Source is 1851 and 1861 census. Sarah's death certificate lists her parents as James Harper and Mariah Welch. Elizabeth's 1862 marriage certificate lists her parents as James Harper and Mariah ____.

1814 - Maria Welsh was born about 1814 in Ireland. Source for birth date is 1851 and 1861 census. Grave marker says that she was born in Dublin, Ireland. Death registration says she was 88 when she died in 1899 - this would mean she was born in 1811.

1837 - Maria (spelled Walsh on this document) about 23, married James Harper about 21 on May 2, 1837 at the Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity Church in Quebec City. Residence for both is the Township of Brampton. Source is church marriage record. NOTE: Neither James or Maria were able to sign their names to the document - had to leave their mark. IT APPEARS THAT THEY GOT MARRIED ABOUT 4 MONTH BEFORE THE BIRTH OF THEIR FIRST CHILD - MAYBE THIS WAS WHY THEY GOT MARRIED IN QUEBEC CITY RATHER THAN IN FULLARTON.

1851 - Maria 37 was living with James Harper 34, farmer, and 7 of their children: William 14, Sarah 12, Elizabeth 10, David 8, George 6, John 4 and Thomas 2 on Lot 12, concession 6 in Fullarton Township, Perth, Ontario. Source is 1851 census and 1851 Agricultural census.

1861 - Maria (spelled Myria in this census) 47 was living with James 45 and 6 of their children: William 23, (Note: Sarah has left and is married), Elizabeth 21, David 18, George 15, (Note: John is missing), Thomas 12 and James 9 in a 1 and 1/2 storey log house in Fullarton Township. Source is 1861 census.

1871 - Maria 58 was living with James 56 and 3 of their children: George 24, Thomas 20 and James 17 in Fullarton Township.

1879 - James, her husband, 62, died on March 28, 1979. He was buried in Carlingford Union Cemetery, Fullarton Township. Source is James' death registration and Canada Find a Grave.

1881 - Maria 67, widow, was living by herself in Fullarton Township. Source is 1881 census.

1891 - Maria (spelled Marige in this census) 75, widow, was living by herself in Fullarton Township. She and her mother and father were all listed as being born in Ireland. Source is 1891 census.

1899 - Maria 88 died on February 21, 1899 in Fullarton Township. She resided at Lot 17, concession 7, Fullarton Township. (NOTE: this is the same farm as her grandson Thomas was living at before he died). Source is death registration.
