Land purchase by James Gastineau:^[8]
This indenture made this 15th day of Febuary 1828 between James Gastineu and his wife Patience of the County of Pulaski and State of Kentucky of the one part and George Crow of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said James Gastineu for and in consideration of the Sum of three hundred dollars to him in hand paid by sd. George Crow, the receipt of which the sd. James Gastineu hath hereby acknowledged, hath granted Bargained & sold unto George Crow his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land Situate lying and being in the County aforesaid on Flat Lick Creek containing One Hundred Acres more or less and bounded as follws, to wit: Beginning on two post oaks black oak & popular, thence running North three hundred and fourteen poles to a White Oak in a wash, thence East fifty two poles to a Black oak, thence south three hundred and fourteen poles to a Bunch of poplars hickory and Black Oak on the old line, thence West fifty one [poles] to the Beginning, to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and Singular the appertinances unto the said George Crow his heirs Executors Administrators forever against the claim or claims of the said James Gastineu and Patience his wife her heirs Executors and Administrators unto the said George Crow his heirs Executors and Administrators forever against the claim or claims of the said James Gastineu and Patience his wife further warrant and Defend the said title of the said tract or parcel of land unto the said George Crow his heirs Executors Administrators against the claim or cliams of all and every person or persons claiming said land, in testimony whereof the said James Gastineu and Patience his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals this day and date above written.

Williamson Clerk of the County Court in and for the County aforesaid Do hereby certify that this Deed from james Gastineu and wife to George Crow was produced to me in my Office on the 16th day of Febuary 1828 and Acknowledged by the said James Gastineu to be his act and Deed and afterward T_____ on the 24th day of March in the same year 1828 the said Deed was fully Acknowledged by the said Patience his wife to be her act and Deed and Acknowledged the said writing again Shewn and explained to her to be her act and Deed & consenteth that the same may be Recorded, whereupon the said Deed Together with the foregoing Certificate hath been duly admitted to record in my office.

Greene County's wills have been microfilmed, in preference to the public handling (and eventually destroying) the originals. James wrote his will 30 Jul 1877; it was recorded 21 Feb 1880. But on the film is a card with the following: "Filming too poor -- see original will. Wits: Joseph H. Usrey, Martin T. Walker."^S6 However, after two extended research trips to the Greene County courthouse, I was unable to locate the original document, nor could two clerks find it. I must assume it's missing -- perhaps having been "borrowed" by some other family researcher since the filming twenty years ago. --Mike (mksmith) 20:03, 28 May 2009 (EDT)

James Gastineau's last will

Comes now Daniel H. Fields one of the Executors named in the last Will and Testament of James Gastineau, deceased, and files his petition for letters testamentary. Wherefore it is ordered by the Court that said Daniel H. Fields as Executor execute and file his bond as such in the penalty of Eight Thousand dollars ($8000.00) with surety to the approval of the Court which bond is now filed by said Executor in the penalty aforesaid with Samuel S. Sharp, Joseph W. Visey[?], Thomas Rigely, and David Lynn as sureties and is by the Court approved.^[7]
