All of his father's property passed to James as the oldest son. He did not expand his holdings beyond his inheritance though he did sell 151 acres, composed of all of Holloways Increase and parts of Ford’s Folly and Dinah Ford’s Beaver Dam, to Arthur Scriven on 11 June 1688.[1]

James and his family attended St. James Episcopal Church in Herring Creek Parish where he was elected as a Church Warden in 1699. The church is located a little over two miles west of the area where the Fords lived. The current building was constructed in 1765 long after James’s descendants left the area for Baltimore County.[2]

At his death in 1702, James left Elizabeth the “upper plantation” and the “lower plantation.” When Thomas came of age he would take possession of the “lower plantation” and after his mother’s death the “upper plantation.” James’s siblings, John Ford and Elizabeth Barnes, received the Repulta tract while his sons John and James inherited Rockford. His daughters Mary and Elizabeth received enslaved servants. The remainder of his estate was to be divided equally between his widow and children. Mary and Elizabeth were to receive their share at 16 and the sons at 16 only if Elizabeth married again.[3]

Following James's death, Elizabeth was married twice more. She married second John Stogdon/Stockden on 30 March 1703, St. James, Herring Creek Parish, Anne Arundel County. John was buried at St. James on 24 September 1704. She married third Francis Moore 27 April 1705 also at St. James.[4] No references to Elizabeth have been found subsequent to her marriage to Francis. It is not known if she had any children from these subsequent marriages.
