- James Elkin born 1720 was a sergeant in the French and Indian War 1758 and is believed to be the father of James Elkin Sr. of Kentucky, who was born April 16, 1755 in Halifax Co., Va." "James Elkin, the first taxed in Pittsylvania County, Virginia 1767 is the earliest ancestor whom the Elkin Family of Kentucky can knowingly claim."
