U.S. Senator & Secretary of War. Served as President of the Northern Central Railway Company of Pennsylvania, 1866-74. He was appointed as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant, serving 1876-77. Elected as a Senator from Pennsylvania to the United States Senate, serving 1877-97. He was the son of Simon Cameron, who also served as Secretary of War in the first months of the Civil War, and as a U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.
