Early Land Acquisition in Frederick County, VA
Acquisition of Land from Pioneers of Old Frederick Country, Virginia:
- James Anderson had two tracts of land, each containing 350 acres surveyed on 14 and 16 April 1753. On 20 February 1753/54, he received a Fairfax grant on the one where James had made improvements. On 12 October 1754, he received a Fairfax grant for the other 350 acres "where he lives", this tract had been bought from Alexander Ross. It was originally surveyed by James Wood as 366 acres in February 1735/36. [Source: Pioneers of Old Frederick County, Virginia, by Cecil O'Dell, pg. 157].

Have found no answers to Thomas' "New York" origin, as alleged in Colbert Jr.'s lawsuit. Similarly, most of the SC families were Loyalists during the Revolution (James, Jr. and Colbert were refugees behind British lines in Charleston, where apparently James died; Colbert's property confiscated; family almost disappeared, except my branch, which removed to Pendleton District, then East TN).
- Children of James Anderson are:
- 7 i. Thomas5 Anderson, born Bet. 1740 - 1755.
- 8 ii. John Anderson, born Abt. 1745.
- 9 iii. James Anderson, died 1782.
- 10 iv. Colbert Anderson, born Abt. 1745; died 1785 in Abbeville District, South Carolina.
- 11 v. Ann Anderson. She married ? Mount.
- 12 vi. William Anderson.
- 13 vii. Stephen Anderson, died Aft. 1782.
