[tusc-essex.ged] JAMES ALLISON, Farmer, P. O. Winfield, was born in Lawrence Township, th is county, in 1821, and is a son of William and Magdalene (Keller) Alliso n, natives of Pennsylvania, and very early settlers of this county, locati ng near the present site of the Zoar Society. The former enlisted during t he war of 1812. They are both deceased, having, lived long and useful live s, and rendered much valuable service in the development of the county. Th ey left a family of six children, five of whom are now living, all in th is neighborhood, with farms adjoining. The subject of this sketch was rais ed on a farm, and received a limited education. He made his home with h is father till his marriage, although after his majority he was engag ed in various pursuits, which took him away from home a great deal. Duri ng this time he followed cattle droving to Pennsylvania and Maryland, f or six years. He also taught school for six terms in Oxford, Wayne, Lawren ce and Dover Townships. In 1856, he was united in marriage with Sevilla Sw alley, a native of Stark County, Ohio; and to this union there have been b orn seven children, four of whom are living--Frank W., Clara M., Charl ie L. and John M. After working for one year, Mr. Allison bought the fa rm where he now lives. He has been industrious and successful, and has bui lt up and added to his place until he now owns 375 acres of well cultivat ed land. He is a Republican in politics, and was formerly a Whig.
