Jacobina Engel was born on 14 June 1803 in Kahlhausen or Brandelfing, France. In 1846, her son John who had gone to America returned to France to bring Jacobina and her younger children (except Joseph who came later) to America. The family lived first in Waukegan (Lake County), Illinois and eventually settled in Tiskilwa (Bureau County), Illinois. Jacobina’s children settled in the area of Walnut, Illinois. Jacobina died in Tiskilwa on 20 July 1885. She is buried at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, Illinois. Jacobina joined Willow Springs Mennonite Church in Tiskilwa Illinois in 1852. Also Sons Joseph Andrew and Nicholas, joined same time. The probably came to America on July 20, 1846 on the Rochester which travelled to NYC from Le Havre.

Please note that per the French civil birth record of her last child and the French civil death record of her husband Andre there was a period of several years between the two events.

Lorentz gives birth date as 11 Jy 1803 Gros Rederching, 57410, Moselle, France. Came to America 1846 Pierre Martin gives same date with birth town as Brandelfing,57,Moselle,Lorraine,France. Jacobina joined Mennonite Church in Tiskilwa in 1852. Also Sons Joseph Andrew and Nicholas, joined the churhc at the same time.

1880 census shows her living in Tiskilwa Bureau County, IL. as a farmer. Still at home are Nicholas (age 27) and Caroline (age 21).
