11 Dec 1998 on freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com: I also have some SLYS in my family line. Here is one of them: Eliza Sly married Samuel Smith b. abt. 1810 Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co.,OH. Samuel SMITH and Eliza SLY married February 18, 1830 in Clermont County Ohio.

Cassandra SLY who married James ASHTON on Sept. 19, 1822 in Brown County Ohio, was born in Clermont County Ohio on Oct. 16, 1805. Cassandra's father, Jacob SLY was a native of Virginia. His father, Jacob SLY Sr. was born on board a vessel during its passage from Holland to Virginia of Dutch and Scotch parentage. They settled near Lexington, VA.

In 1791 Cassandra's father floated down the Ohio River to Ft. Washington, where he joined General Anthony Wayne's Army. He was an officer of transportation for the Army of General Arthur St. Claire at Ft. Mercer, Ft. Wayne and Ft. Defiance.

After the war, Jacob SLY Sr. with his family, left their home in Virginia and went to Ft. Washington, now Cincinnati. Here the SLY'S build a flour mill, perhaps the first mill erected on Mill Creek.

Jacob SLY Jr. married Sarah Prickett, daughter of John Prickett and Sarah Robinson, who, with their children Elizabeth, Nancy, John, Sarah, Richard and Josiah, emigrated from Maryland and settled in Clermont County Ohio.

Jacob SLY and Sarah Prickett married in Hamilton County Ohio in April 1794 and were the parents of eight children: George, Joseph, David, Mary, Elizabeth, Cassandra, Rebecca and Clara.
