1777 - Jacob inherits his sister, Mary's, property against her will when she dies intestate, widowed and childless. (York Co PA Land Records, Liber E, No 12 and also National Genealogical Society Newsletter, 15-2:78) Jacob and his wife Mary sold this land to John Welty, who was probably the same John Welty who was husband of Jacob's other sister, Eve. (York Co. Land Records Liber E, No 12, recorded 16 June 1777) This document states that Jacob and Mary were living in Frederick Co., MD and Jacob signed his initials "JG" and Mary made her mark, which was a circle. By 1783, Jacob and Mary had moved to Washington Co., MD where a deed shows "Jacob Gochenawer of Washington Co., MD" bought two lots #82 & 83 in the town of Jerusalem, also known as Funkstown, a village near Hagerstown. These lots were sold April 1801, by son Peter, who had Power of Attorney, after the death of Jacob. David GOCHNOUER and wife Susanna Beaver and Mary (widow of Jacob) of Huntingdon Co., PA .Isaac GOCHENOUR and Nancy (sic) of Loudon Co., VA. Abraham COHENOUR of Washington Co., MD. Elizabeth SWITZER and husband Samuel of Washington Co., MD. Mary LEIGHTY and husband Samuel of Bedford Co., PA.
