Twin of Lewis, who emigrated to Iowa. Brothers Lewis, Jacob and Peter Bonnett were in Virginia Militia recruited to spy on Indians in Western Virginia during Revolutionary war. Also provided meat to troops in winter quarters.Jacob stated on his Rev War pension application that he was born on Cedar Creek in now Frederick County, Virginia. His father and mother sold land on Cedar Creek Swamp Drain in 1777. He is buried at Old Harmony Church Cemetery, Jane Lew, Lewis County, West Virgina along with his wife Martha(Hews)Hughes. Jacob did not come to Iowa however his son Samuel and Samuel's son Marshall Fitzhugh Bonnett did as well as Jacobs Twin Lewis, Peter(who died in Illinois on the way to Iowa),and Phillip. Lewis, Phillip and Peter's clans settled around Libertyville, Fairfield Iowa in Jefferson and Van Buren Counties. Samuel and his sons settled further west in Marion County SW of DesMoines. I suspect that is because they came later and land was only available further west of Jefferson/Van Buren Counties.

"Jacob had a daughter named Grace, who married Moses Hughes. History of the Hughes family said Grace's parents were Martha Hughes and Jacob Bennett(Bonnett?). It stated that Martha was kidnapped by Indians at one time, and her father paid them to release her."
