'In 1927-28 father's only brother and 3 sisters and their families moved to Paraguay where they were permitted to settle in the treeless dry Chaco which native Paraguans avoided. This enabled them to maintain their own language and culture which they believed to be threatened in the prosperous Manitoba communities.'
