•Note: The documentation for the conclusion that Jacob Aylor married Frances SPARKS is: 1. Will of Thomas Sparks, Culpeper WB C, p. 226ff. Names son-in-law Jacob Aylor 2. Clark v. Towles, Madison County Chancery Suite #45, Circuit Clerk's Office, Madison County Court House, Madison, VA. Courts summons include Jacob Aylor and Frances his wife, daughter of Thomas Sparks who was married to Mary Towles The will of Thomas Sparks mentions that he had already left land to two of his sons, John and Humphrey Sparks. He then leaves land to Jacob Aylor, Russell Vawter and Jacob Aylor. All of these last three were his sons-in-law, though he does not specifically state so in his will. These relationships are proved in the Clark v. Towles case. He did not leave land to his fourth son-in-law, Jarvis Smith, because Jarvis Smith and his wife had moved to Wilkes County, NC, where there are deeds from William Kilby (brother of James above) to Jarvis Smith. Jarvis and Nancy (Sparks) Smith are, however, named in the court case. The list of children for Jacob Aylor and wife Frances Sparks named in the 2nd summons to Madison County court in the case of Clark v. Towles, are: 1. Merry Aylor (m. Betsy Vallot Sparks 2 AUG 1815) 2. Bluford Aylor (no further record) 3. Thomas Aylor (m. 1. Mary Jane Hoffman and 2. Louisa Rosson) 4. Martin Aylor (m. Jane----) 5. Mary "Polly" Aylor wife of William Hitt (m. 21 FEB 1814) 6. Rhoda Aylor wife of Evans Wilhoit (m. 9 DEC 1807) The article in Beyond Germanna No. 12 by Sarah Aylor Lewis adds these children: 8. Ephraim Aylor (an error, he was a son of Benjamin Aylor) 9. Aaron Aylor (she says this is not proved and his origins are not known) 10. Elzey Aylor. He died unmarried in 1836 so is therefore not named in Clark v. Towles. His 1836 estate settlement left money to (father) Jacob Aylor (d. 1840) and also to Merry Aylor "at the request of his father and mother for caring for him during his illness." 11. Nancy Aylor m. Caleb Wilhoit. This is also an error, she was a daughter of Michael Aylor Her article omits Bluford Aylor entirely. So, adding Bluford and Elzey, and omitting the rest, the children of Jacob Aylor numbered 7: Merry, Bluford, Thomas, Martin, Mary Hitt, Rhoda Wilhoit, and Elzey. If anyone is working on the descendants of Martin Aylor, please let me know. He had a daughter Sarah Frances Aylor who married James Polk Kilby in 1868, who was a great-great uncle of mine. She is not not given in Sarah Aylor Lewis' article in Germanna No. 12, but her marriage record and census records prove she was his daughter. They had 3 children--2 sons and 1 daughter. I recently discovered that James P. Kilby married a 2nd time and had four more children. (From his CSA pension file in Tennessee, of all places. The children by his first wife were raised, in part, by my great-grandfather Thomas M. Kilby in St. Louis). I don't know of any living descendants on this line--but I keep looking. Craig Kilby
