He is on the 1860 census , age 3/12, with parents, Marion Twp., Logan Post Office, Hocking Co., Oh.[p 149, fam # 913/9 01] Age 9 with parents in Marion, 1870 census [p. 54, fam #277/280], and age 18, with parents in 1880.[p 109C, fam #244/247] Nancy (or Alice N.) was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Ann (Short) Poling. The 1900 census shows Isaac, 40, a farmer in Rush Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh. Wife Alice N., 35 , declares they have been married 12 years and she has born 5 children, all alive at this time.[ED 12, p 308B, fam #256/257] In 1910, we find them still in Rush Creek, on Startsville and Hobbs Summit Rds. Isaac is "47" and still farming. "Mary Alice", 44, declares they have been married 21 years. She has born 10 children, 8 alive at this time.[ED 76, p 3B, fam # 68/ 69] The 1920 census shows Isaac, 59, and wife "N. Alice", 54, with the last four children. They are still on the farm in Rushcreek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh. [ED 30, p 10B, fam #245/247 ] They continue in Rush Creek Twp., on Logan Road, on 1930 census. Isaac W., owns a farm worth $3500, and they have a radio. He is 70, and was married at age 27. he continues to be a farmer on a general farm. Alice N., 64, reports she 23 when first married. Son Willis still in the home, and cannot read and write. (ED 23-32, p. 6A, fam 122/122) We are told by grandson Richard C. Rittgers, (#1344A.1) that Isaac lived on the farm of his father, Tobias, all his life. It was 80 acres of rich farmland in a "pie" shape that straddled the Fairfield-Hocking County line. Because we find them listed on the census as a family in Rush Creek, Fairfield Co., we will use this as their location. To confuse matters, when Isaac was a child, we find them, on the family farm, listed in Marion Twp., Hocking Co.! The county line was moved twice in this area, and it may have been determined by where their house was located on the property, too. Isaac died 26 Feb 1934 in Rush Creek Twp., Fairfield Co., Oh., and was buried 1 Mar 1934 in Harvey Cemetery, Hocking Co, Oh. [Family group sheet submitted by grandson, Richard Rittgers]
