Obituary: Isaac Newton Douglas Aberdeen American News, June 11, 1955, pg. 1. I.N. Douglas, Former Hub Mayor, Dies I. N. Douglas, Aberdeen mayor from 1931 to 1936 and a building contractor, died Saturday morning at the home of his son, Elmer, in Lennox. He had been a patient at the veterans hospital in Sioux Falls for a time prior to going to Lennox. Mr. Douglas is the father of Mrs. Mary Obermeyer, 829 7th Ave. N.E. Arrangements for services are incomptete. Gates Funeral Home will be in charge.

Obituary: Isaac Newton Douglas Aberdeen American News, June 12, 1955, pg 8. Ex-Mayor's Funeral To Be Tuesday Services for Isaac Newton Douglas, 79, former Aberdeen mayor, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church here. The Rev. James Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Douglas, who was mayor from 1931-36. died Saturday morning at the home of his son, Elmer, in Lennox. He was born Jan. 12, 1876 at Richmond, Ky., and grew to manhood there. He was united in marriage to Stella Garrison at Noblesville, Ind., in 1903 and their first home established there. They came to Aberdeen in 1919 where he had since resided until recently when he became a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Mrs. Douglas died in August 1943. Mr. Douglas was a member of the Aberdeen Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge, Modern Woodmen, Veterans of Foreigh Wars, a charter member of the Spanish-American War Veterans and a past department commander of the Spanish American War Vets.. He served on the Aberdeen Board of Education from June 21, 1927 until April 30, 1931 when he resigned to qualify for mayor. He was an Aberdeen contractor for many years and was the contractor for the Presbyterian Chuch. Survivors include: three sons, James of San Gabriel, Calif.; Elmer of Lennox, and Henry of Spearfish; three daughters, Mrs. William (Mary) Obermeyer of Aberdeen, Mrs. Russell (Leonora) Barstow of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. James (Ruth) Rasmussen of Porterville, Calif., and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter as well as his wife.
