Death of Mrs. Hale

The many friends of Mrs. G. W. Hale today learned with sorrow of her death in Oakland. Remains will be interred here Friday in the Masonic cemetery by the side of her husband, the late Geo. Hale, pioneer, lumberman and resident of Columbia for many years. She was a native of Peoria, Illinois, aged 73 years.
As Josie Spier she grew to womanhood in the old Spir home on Gold street, next north of the Toby residence. Her death removes another of the comparatively few remaining early day families left. The only surviving member of the family is Mrs. Olive Knudsen of Oakland, to whom all Columbia friends extend deepest sympathy in the loss of her beloved mother.
