Charles Spier Called Beyond

    Charles Albert Spier, one of the early settlers of this county and Visalia and well know painter and decorator, passed away in his home, 203 Northwest Second avenue at 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon.  Mr. Spier had been ill for some time.  Last week he was taken to the city where he was placed under the care of a specialist, but his ailment was too far gone and he was taken home again Saturday.
    The deceased was born in Columbia, Tuolomne county, July 16, 1858, being 63 years of age at the time of his demise.  He came to Visalia with his parents at the age of 10 years and had continued to reside here through the remainder of his life.  He was engaged in the nursery business with his father until 25 years ago, when he entered the painter and decorators' trade.
    Mr. Spier was married to Miss Laura Bowen, of Visalia, in the year 1881, and to them was born two children, Chester Spier, of Visalia, and Mrs. Robert Board of Stockton.  Mr. Spier is a Spanish American War Veteran and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and Visalia Painter's union.
    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura Spier, of Visalia; one daugher, Mrs. Robert Board, of Stockton; one son, Chester Spier, of Visalia; three grandchildren, Roberta, Merle and Robert Board, and one sister, Mrs. Josephine Hale, of Oakland.
    Funeral services will be held from the late residence at 3 o'clock this afternoon.  Two members each of the painters union and Woodmen of the World and two Spanish American War veterans will serve as pallbearers.  The Christian Science society will have charge of the burial services.
