McGavock, Hugh - born September 1761; entered service 1779 in Montgomery County, Virginia, where resided (area later Wythe County, Virginia), granted Pension 1834 in Wythe County, Virginia; resided 1835 on Reed Creek there; died there 4/2/1844; wife died before him; 10 children: son James died before soldier leaving widow & children mentioned but not named; in 1844 other 9 children who applied for pension: Joseph, Jacob, Robert, Hugh, Randall (resided there age 43, P.O. address 1850 Wytheville, Virginia), Sally, Polly wife of Thomas Cloyd (she died before 1850), Eliza wife of Andrew B. Ewing & Margaret wife of Samuel H. McNutt (she died before 8/25/1845 leaving husband & several children mentioned but not named); one of soldier's sons married daughter of Senator Felix Grundy who in 1835 gave affdavit in Davidson County, Tennessee, that he & one of soldier's brothers married sisters; soldier's youngest brother David resided in Davidson County, Tennessee, 1835 age 72; soldier's brother-in-law Joseph Kent resided 1832 in Wythe County, Virginia, & in 1835 was Justice of the Peace for that County age 70, he having married soldier's sister abt. 50 years before, & was a nephew of Colonel Joseph Crockett.
