Born in Sturgis Michigan, the family moved to Coldwater when he was 6. Resided in Coldwater until marriage to Ida Roblee in 1904. Educated at Tri-State College in Angola IN and Detroit Law School. Except for a few months after admittance to the bar in 1903, Mr. Van Aken’s law practice was entirely in Battle Creek MI. In addition to being a member of the bar association he was a member of the Battle Creek Lodge and First Presbyterian Church.
