About Hiley Thaxton

Daughter of John Thomas Thaxton. John Jr. (brother), John Sr. (father) and Thomas Thaxton (uncle) are listed on page 349 in the 1830 Warren Co, TN Census. She had a son John Wesley Thaxton before marrying John. By 1850, she was remarried to Elisha Reynolds. “A Brief Sketch of The Thaxton Family,” by W.G. McDonough of McMinnville,TN (1937) gives the dates of birth listed on this record. The entry, however, is clearly somewhat in error based on census records [the order of the husbands is reversed]: “Hiley Thaxton was first married to Elisha Reynolds and upon his death Married John Morrow. Her children were, John Wesley Thaxton, E.K.P. Reynolds, James Morrow, Robert Morrow and Mary Morrow. James LaFayette Thaxton, merchant, large landowner and former postmaster at Thaxton, Tenn., was the son of John Wesley Thaxton. He was born July 24, 1846 and died May 14, 1920.”

Among the living (1935) descendants listed is Milton Morrow (Morrison, TN) but no other Morrows.

“Tennessee Convicts” [Early Records of the State Penitentiary, Volume 1, 1831-1850, Charles A. Sherrill and Tomye M. Sherrill, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., published 1997.] has an entry for Martin Thaxton, in prison for 3 1/2 years for horse stealing. The entry lists siblings JohnJohn of Warren Co, TN; brother Thomas in Rhea Co, MO; sister in Gibson Co, TN m. to Robt Ellison; two sisters in Warren Co - on married to Elisha Runnels, one to James Ellison.
