    Herman H. Hendricks, age 85 of Lynden, died at a Bellingham health care facility on Thursday, Aug. 18.
    Herm was the son of Ben and Annie (Buizer) Hendricks and was born in Lynden on February 12, 1920. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1937 and during World War II served with the US Navy in the South Pacific. He was married to Betty VanDalfsen in Lynden on June 4, 1943 and in 1947 began a career in insurance and real estate. In the early 60’s Herm merged with two other agents to form the Noteboom, Byeman & Hendricks Insurance Agency in Lynden and retired in 1982.
    Mr. Hendricks was a charter member of the Third Christian Reformed Church where he also served as an Elder. Other community activities included being a charter member of the Lynden Noon Kiwanis Club and served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Christian Health Care Center, Salem Christian Homes for the Handicapped and Cascade Christian Services. He also enjoyed playing Scrabble and reading.
    Herm is survived by his wife Betty; daughter Marilee Hendricks of Chino, CA.; son Dale and wife Cheryl Hendricks of Lynden; daughter Jeanie and husband Jeff Jameson of Sammamish, WA.; five grandchildren, Julie and husband Denny VanderVelden, Janna and husband Brian Libolt, Becky and husband Tyler Bos, Kayla and Michelle Jameson and five great-grandchildren; brother Les and wife Marian Hendricks of Lynden; sisters Henrietta “Toots” Kok and Bernice and husband Don Kooy of Lynden, Leona and husband Ken VanderGriend of Abbotsford, B.C.; sister-in-law Martha Hendricks of Grand Rapids, MI and numerous other relatives. He was preceded by his parents, an infant son, Jerry Hendricks; brothers Bill Hendricks, John and wife Leone Hendricks and brother-in-law, Hilbert ‘Hip’ Kok.
